FOREST GREEN ROVERS 3 LINCOLN CITY 0

FOREST Green stormed back to the summit of the Blue Square Bet Premier, swatting aside the limp Imps beneath the New Lawn floodlights.

Matty Taylor's fifth and sixth goals of the season, plus another from substitute Magno Vieira, rewarded a display of both efficiency and exhilaration from the high-flying hosts.

There were certainly no signs of stage fright in front of the live Premier Sports cameras, and for now Dave Hockaday's men have usurped Newport County at the top of the table.

Lincoln skipper Andrew Boyce was twice on the end of early inswinging corners but failed to test home keeper Sam Russell.

Rovers were bossing possession however, and they were rewarded in the 16th minute when Yan Klukowski surged into the area from Chris Stokes' pass and cut the ball back for Taylor to finish past the helpless Paul Farman.

Klukowski and Taylor combined again five minutes later, but this time the diminutive striker's goalbound shot was blocked in heroic fashion by Boyce.

Taylor has fully justified his selection ahead of Reece Styche as Rovers' central striker in the past three games, and on 35 minutes he produced a swerving effort from the edge of the area that was well watched by Farman.

Russell did not have a save to make at the other end until five minutes before the interval, and even that was a routine one from Tom Miller's header.

There was no shift in the balance of play at the start of the second period, and Rovers doubled their advantage in the 51st minute thanks to right-back Ed Asafu-Adjaye's overlapping run and the perfect cross for Taylor to power home at the near post.

It could have been 3-0 soon afterwards when Farman made a hash of collecting Ben Wright's free-kick, only to produce a point-blank save that foiled Jamie Turley.

Lincoln's relief was short-lived, as on 63 minutes Wright's corner was headed goalwards and dropped for the alert Vieira to sweep into the net from six yards.

The imps now looked thoroughly miserable to be in Gloucestershire, Mamadau Fofana's speculative shot from distance drifting over to sum up their lack of verve.

Meanwhile Taylor was sniffing a hat-trick, and he almost got it with an audacious 30-yard chip that had to be helped over the bar by Farman.

Kieron Forbes saw a fizzing drive narrowly miss the far post, while a back-heel from the effervescent Taylor set up substitute Steve Brogan for a shot that was smartly saved by Farman.

More goals would not have flattered the men in green, and sub Omar Koroma's effort was deflected behind before Eddie Oshodi nodded over from the resulting corner.

Forest Green: Russell; Asafu-Adjaye, Turley, Oshodi, Stokes; Forbes, Bangura (Vieira 52), Collins; Wright (Koroma 83), M. Taylor, Klukowski (Brogan 71); Subs not used: Norwood, Styche.
