Former Cheltenham Town star Steve Jones will make his first appearance for Bishop's Cleeve in tonight's hastily-arranged friendly at Pegasus Juniors (7.30pm).

Paul Collicutt's side were due to travel to Halesowen Town, but the Zameretto League Premier Division club have gone into receivership and the match has been called off.

Halesowen have a new chairman who is going to pay off enough debt for them to continue to exist, so Collicutt is hoping to fit in the friendly at a later date.

In the meantime, his squad will make the trip to face Hereford side Pegasus.

It will be Cleeve's first run-out since their opening friendly against Cheltenham on July 3 which finished 2-2.

Jones was on holiday and missed the chance to face his old club, but he has been training with Cleeve and is set to sign up for the new season.

"Steve is keen and he will play for us, work permitting," Collicutt said.

"He is a self-employed electrician and I know he is very busy, but I know him well of old and he is a good athlete who does a lot of fitness work in his own time."

Jones made his name as a defender after being converted from the wing at Cheltenham in the mid-1990s.

He spent most of last season playing in the centre of midfield for Bath City.

His versatility and experience will be a big lift to Collicutt, who has been dealt a blow by the shock departure of target man Julian Alsop to Cheltenham Town.

Alsop, who was a team mate of Jones' at both Swansea City and Cheltenham, has agreed a month-to-month rolling contract with the League Two club.

"We will wait and see how it goes for Julian at Cheltenham," Collicutt said.

"We will miss him and I am disappointed because we got him into better shape and we were looking to reap the benefits.

"But we get on well and the door will always be open for him to come back and I wish him all the best."

Former Slimbridge left-sider John Cant has joined from Hungerford Town and Johnny Meadows has completed his return.

Meadows and Dan Avery are on holiday and will miss this evening's game, while Lyndon Tomkins has joined Cirencester Town.

● Evesham United and Cirencester Town are also in action tonight. Evesham visit Stratford Town (8pm), while Cirencester go to Shrivenham (7.45pm).
