England step up World Cup preparations with Wembley win over Peru

England signed off before their World Cup adventure begins with a comfortable friendly win over Peru at Wembley.

Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge opened the scoring with a fine curling shot in the 32nd minute.

Both of Roy Hodgson's central defenders, Gary Cahill and Phil Jagielka, were on target from Leighton Baines set pieces in the second half.

England now travel to the USS for two matches at Miami's Sunlife Stadium against Ecuador and Honduras.

They will face Honduras on June 4, Ecuador on June 7 before flying directly to Rio de Janeiro, their base during the World Cup.

England's first group game is against Italy in Manaus on June 14, before they face Uruguay on June 19 and Costa Rica on June 24.

England: Hart, Johnson, Cahill, Jagielka (Smalling 73), Baines (Stones 75), Gerrard (Wilshere 64), Henderson, Lallana (Milner 73), Rooney (Sterling 66), Welbeck, Sturridge (Barkley 82). Subs: Foster, Lampard, Lambert, Flanagan, Forster.

Goal: Sturridge 32, Cahill 65, Jagielka 70.

Peru: Fernandez, Rodriguez, Callens, Ramos (Riojas 67), Advincula, Yotun, Cruzado, Ballon, Ramirez (Hurtado 60), Deza (Ruidiaz 66), Carrillo (Flores 87). Subs: Forsyth, Gambetta, Velarde, Trauco, Gallese.
