Elizabeth Hurley supports Breast Cancer Awareness Month

In between her jet set lifestyle with new beau Shane Warne, designing her successful beach wear, looking after her son Damian and running a farm, Elizabeth Hurley still finds time in her hectic schedule to support dozens of charities.
One which is particularly close to her heart is the Estee Lauder Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign, which she was first asked to help with 18 years ago when she started modelling for Estee Lauder.
"My grandmother had recently died of breast cancer, so it was a cause very close to my heart," she says.
"This is a disease which knows no boundaries and does not discriminate, touching everyone in every country.
"We all know someone – a grandmother, friend, mother, aunt, sister, cousin or co-worker – who has battled breast cancer."
The Estee Lauder Companies' Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign, which was launched in 1992,  has raised millions of pounds for research and encouraged thousands of women to see their doctors regularly and get a mammogram every year if they are aged over 50 in the UK or over 40 in America.
Elizabeth says: "Above all a healthy lifestyle is a top priority.
"Every year on my birthday I visit my doctor and get a mammogram and I encourage other women to do the same.
"Research shows that a healthy lifestyle plays an important role in breast cancer prevention. I believe that regular exercise and maintaining a healthy diet low in fat and full of vegetables, fruits and wholegrains is critical."
This year is the 20th anniversary of the campaign.  In the early days breast cancer was barely spoken about but now fundraisers  hope to reach even more people through platforms such as social media.
Elizabeth used to travel the world with the late cosmetics company founder, Estee Lauder, to spread the word about breast health and now regularly tweets about her charity engagements.
She has been on a tour of America and visited the Empire State Building with breast cancer survivors to light it up in pink.
"Social media is undoubtedly one of the most groundbreaking tools for sharing information instantly," Elizabeth says.
 "I regularly follow @BCACampaign on Twitter and use my own Twitter account to talk about issues that are important to me such as breast health and how we as individuals can come together to make a very big difference."
