"Disgusted" onlookers witnessed the owner of a dying dog dump the animal at a park in the Cotswolds.

The dog was suffering from a "massive" tumour on its paw when it was retrieved by a passerby near the Cotswold Water Park, in Cirencester, on Saturday morning.

Karen Cooper, 49, said she was walking her pet dogs with her partner when the injured canine was found alone.

She said that a fisherman had seen the owner of a Silver Corsa "abandon" the animal and then "drive off".

She was able to pen the dog in a nearby play park before the RSPCA arrived.

Due to its injuries, the dog was put to sleep later that day.

Having read this story elsewhere (Wilts and Glos Standard) it appears that the RSPCA did not help, as they were busy elsewhere.

@howrude We have a disgusting occupation of parasite people who do brutal things to beautiful earth and its wonderful creatures. Most of us know this, however failing to report things gives approval to such brutality and may let people forget just how cruel we are. People are very desensitised already to such shocking scenes but we need action, we need punishment. We need for criminals to stop getting away with things on technicalities and for certain deterrants that if they do something bad, they will live to regret it. @ Zalapompadoo bless you, I know it is hard to read an article properly with tears in your eyes and the lines blur and then we can say something in response to what we think we have read. I have done this myself. The fisherman could have put his stupid rod down and tried to help.

zalapompadoo, I'm not being nasty. The simple fact is that you should not be blaming the wrong person for a wrongdoing, even if you are upset. Would it be alright for a judge to sentence a witness to be executed just because the judge is upset? Of course not, but that is basically what you were doing, isn't it?

@ zalapompadoo You said "hope mr fisherman fell in the severn and drowned" Why? Obviously, you did not read the article correctly. Read it again and you will see this sentence: "She said that a fisherman had seen the owner of a Silver Corsa abandon the animal and then drive off". So, the fisherman did NOT abandon the dog, he saw the owner of a silver Corsa abandon the dog.

How disgusting some people are!! Hopefully somebody will recognise the car description and the dog, the owner deserves a very harsh punishment. No animal deserves to suffer, they are so reliant on us for their well being, and so loyal, I hope the owner is ashamed of themselves to think of this poor animal looking for them no matter what they had done to him. Still, I believe in Karma, hopefully when the owner is in pain and requires medical attention they will just be cast aside too, as far as I'm concerned it can't come soon enough.
