A dinosaur-like claw has this afternoon taken huge chunks out of the beleaguered Golden Egg building.

The King's Square monstrosity was attached by the giant claw as amazed shoppers looked on. One tourist even took snaps on their camera.

One on-looker said: "It looks a bit like a dinosaur with its huge claw that can twist and turn. It's amazing just how quick it is coming down."

The entire building will be gone in just a week after Gloucester City Council organised for its demolition.

Glad to see it go - so long as people realise that the grand-sounding "King's Quarter" plan is simply to build yet more shops on the presently open area of King's Square and turn into just another set of streets.

How sad... Sustainability means intelligent reuse not wholesale destruction.
