ONE successful diner has achieved the impossible and polished off the Six Nations Breakfast Challenge at Friar Tuck's pub in Quedgeley.

Reporter Ben Cusack, 26, from Lancashire, downed the entire fry-up – with six of everything – in just over 47 minutes.

He said: "I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the huge steaming plate of food. But I just started at the left of the plate and slowly worked my way across.

"I went from left to right because the fork was in my left hand and I didn't want to move more than necessary.

"Before I knew it, I was three-quarters done with half the time left.

The challenge, in aid of the Ronald McDonald House charity, runs on weekends throughout the Six Nations tournament.

"The last bit was a huge struggle, but I was raised to always clean your plate, so I just pushed on.

"I saved the bacon until the end, because I love bacon and I've always got room for a bit of bacon.

"Afterwards I was so full I felt pregnant.

"I've never done anything like that before, and hopefully I never will again."

Ben is the only person to date to complete the challenge.

If you want to have a go, call the pub on 01452 720312.

The Germans eat meat for breakfast. What does that prove? I don't think that anyone could be expected to perform well after stuffing their face with the Six Nations breakfast. Why overeat for charity? If you've got £15 to spare, then donate it directly to some charity and cut out the middleman.

The English Breakfast....this is why we won two world wars. The French have Croissants and yoghurt and can't even beat Italy in the 6 nations let alone wars!
