Dementia support workers from Gloucestershire have cycled across Vietnam and Cambodia to help raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society.
The 400 mile cycle by three friends Caroline Stone, Andy Cowan and Dave Jones joined other riders in the trip from Hoi Chi Ming City across the Mekong Delta and into Cambodia; finishing the challenge at Angkor Watt.
The group raised £3,000 to help the Alzheimer’s Society to continue to support people and their families living with dementia.
Caroline said: “It was a true adventure winding our way through the tangled jungle paths.
“The heat and humidity was intense which added to cocktail of experiences we will never forget. Reaching the great temples in Angkor Watt was an emotional end to our wonderful but exhausting fusion of culture.
“For many of us it was a life changing opportunity to explore our own lives and to think about those people we had chosen to support in our fund raising event.”
One in three people over 65 will develop dementia.
Throughout May, Alzheimer’s Society Memory Cafes are the place to go for anyone affected by and living with dementia or worried about dementia.
Across the county, each different cafe offers anyone in need of support, a safe and understanding monthly meeting.
A dementia adviser will be on hand to talk to, and a team of volunteers and group facilitator ensure that everyone is made to feel welcome and included.
