ASDA bosses will learn tonight whether they can build a new store in Kingsway.
City councillors are gearing up to make their decisions on plans for the 25,000sq ft store off the A38.
Some 230 jobs are at stake at the new supermarket for the growing estate and it seems planners are now giving the thumbs up for the scheme to be given the green light.
Planning officer Joann Meneaud recommends that councillors approve the application.
She said: "I consider that the design and layout of the proposed building is acceptable and would sit well within the context of the adjoining modern housing development and when viewed from the A38.
"New landscaping would also add to the amenity of the area and improve the appearance upon the main entrance road into Kingsway."
That view is backed by councillors who represent the Quedgeley area.
Anna Mozul, chairman of Quedgeley's parish council, said: "Residents are very supportive of having another supermarket as they and I feel there is not enough competition in Quedgeley."
Planning committee member Councillor Andrew Lewis (C, Quedgeley Severn Vale) has already pledged his support for the scheme.
He said: "There is absolutely a need in Quedgeley to have another food store.
"When I go to Tesco, I can't get into the car park."
The store would include 239 car parking spaces, a cycle park, recycling area, high-quality design and attractive landscaping.
Developer Robert Hitchins Ltd wants to build the supermarket for Asda, having recently completed the first phase of development at Kingsway local centre, which is now fully occupied and includes a Tesco Express, chemist, cafe, estate agent, hairdresser, vet and a pub.
The second phase of the centre, which will boast restaurant and takeaway outlets and healthcare uses, will start in June 2013.
Sports pitches are being constructed on the estate and work on building a new community centre is scheduled to begin this spring.
