Travellers are at Stratford Park leisure centre car park

COUNCIL officials are dealing with travellers who have moved on to a car park in Stroud.

Around half a dozen caravans and towing vehicles have been parked across car parking bays at Stratford Park leisure centre over the weekend.

This morning, Stroud District Council maintenance staff were cleaning up rubbish around the caravans and officials are speaking to the owners of the caravans in a bid to get them moved.

The sudden appearance of the caravans, and rubbish overflowing from bins worried some leisure centre users.

“Some stuff which may be theirs has just been left all over the ground,” said one woman, who did not wish to be named. “I am not against travellers but there has been more rubbish here since they arrived and there are belongings like shoes just in the middle of the car park.”

A council spokesman said the matter was being dealt with and it is expected to issue a statement soon.

All complain about travellers moving near by but they are so lucky they don't get burgled and robbed like rest of us when all the crime just gets bad all of sudden. burglars must have a thing of hate for caravans lol

You are a born optimist tishwash, they will pay b*gger all, and will leave rubbish strewn all over the place like they are already doing, with maintenance staff already having to clear up their mess for them, When they do finally leave it will cost a fortune to clean up after them with the taxpayer footing the bill ... as usual !! Pity the council cannot just turn up with a few JCB's and advise them to be on their way inside half an hour, or that they would "move" them with a little help from the heavy plant machinery, but that would breach their "human rights" !!

I hope they're paying to use the car park and I hope they're putting some form of deposit up over keeping the place clean?
