Citizen editor: Well done Newent and you deserved your hero's welcome on your return from Twickenham

CROWDS ensured victorious Newent got a hero's welcome when the team returned home from Twickenham.

What a performance and indeed what support the club received, both in the stadium and in the town.

On the same day, Drybrook also took to the hallowed turf at Twickers although sadly, a win was just out of reach for them.

These achievements are not only great from the clubs but for sport in general.

This is where the legacy of the 2015 Rugby World Cup comes in, helping to ensure funding for the grassroots game.

The great work done by Gloucester Rugby, the council and others to bring the tournament here was undoubtedly helped by the reputation of our county when it comes to the oval ball and this passion for the game will hopefully be repaid with more investment in the sport as a whole.

These teams and others deserve this – after all, they go a long way towards making our communities great.

Anyone with information about the crime should contact police on 101.
