THE derby day bragging rights were claimed in emphatic style by Cinderford Town who powered past Bishop’s Cleeve.

Cleeve started well and skipper Matt Williams saw his header well-saved by debutant Craig Edwards in the Foresters’ goal.

Edwards was called into action again to keep out a Jake Lee shot while at the other end Dave Bird dragged a shot wide.

The visitors missed a glorious chance to take the lead, but when presented with virtually an open goal, Lee managed to miss.

Cinderford made the former Cheltenham Town man and his teammates pay with the opening goal on 29 minutes.

Lewis Sommers flicked-on a long clearance and it fell perfectly for George Lloyd who controlled and lashed a shot past Harvey Rivers.

Cleeve responded well with Bird being called upon to clear Lee’s header off the line and Edwards denying Joe Turley.

Cinderford doubled their advantage just before the break when Danny Haines’ free-kick was only partially cleared and Dale Evans fired home from distance.

The hosts dominated the early exchanges of the second half with Lloyd having a shot saved by Rivers and Evans was inches away with a free-kick.

The points were wrapped up on the hour mark as Joe Tumulty finished coolly after a nice move.

Cleeve’s search for a goal was finally rewarded on 78 minutes and it came from the unlikeliest of sources.

Cheltenham Town scholar Rivers was making his debut for the Mitres after joining on work experience and he capped it with a goal.

His long kick sailed over the entire Cinderford backline and past opposite number Edwards to give John Brough’s men some hope.

Cinderford had the last word as Clayton Green forced Rivers to parry his strike and Sam Hunt slid home the rebound.

Cinderford make the trip to Wales on Boxing Day to face Merthyr Town (1pm) while Cleeve welcome Yate Town to Kayte Lane (3pm)
