FINALLY, the wait is over and the Gloucester boys are back in action today.

The Cherry and Whites take to the pitch against Sale at 3pm, and fans across Gloucestershire and beyond are hailing the start of the new season.

In the run-up to today, readers have been sending in pictures of themselves across the world in their beloved Gloucester shirts.

And we have received images sent in from as far away as Japan, Tunisia and Thailand.

But closer to home, mum Claire Randall and her children Rebecca, seven, and William, nine, have dusted off their kit ready for the big game.

And it promises to be an exciting season with silverware in the offing.

"It seems like a long time since the season ended," said Claire, from Nailsworth.

"Now the new season is here, we can't wait for it to get going and cheer Gloucester on."

As the players take to the pitch, our Gloucester Rugby writer Nick Purewal will be covering every moment of the game not only for our website but also for our new-look 16-page bumper sports supplement on Monday.

Called the Pink Un, it will provide analysis, stats and match reports for Gloucester and also many other local rugby and football games from across the county.

Today, The Citizen staff will be out at Kingsholm promoting the new supplement to attract those fans who used to love the Saturday pink edition back in the day. The Citizen editor Jenny Eastwood said: "This Pink Un is not about recreating what we had before but a new modern supplement to cater for our county sports fans now.

"We know how much our readers love their sport and we are really excited about offering them even more coverage this year. So whether you follow the Cherry and Whites, the Tigers, Forest Green, the Robins, Cinderford and many more sides, there will be something in this new supplement for you."

...And, of course, Rupҽrt Hardҽn, our first choice and best tight head prop, starts in the tight head position. You could put you house on it because he has no competition for that position.
