A CAR was severely damaged after it caught fire on the M5 this morning between Cheltenham and Tewkesbury.

Firefighters received calls from several members of the public shortly after 11am reporting a vehicle on fire northbound between junctions 10 and junction nine.

A fire engine from Cheltenham West Station in Uckington and another from Tewkesbury Community Fire Station attended the incident.

The car, a Peugot 406, was badly damaged by the fire and the fire crews used one hose reel and two sets of breathing apparatus to extinguish the flames.

They also washed down the hard shoulder of the motorway which was covered in oil.
