Regulars, racing fans and occasional flutterers flocked to city centre bookmakers this afternoon as horses and riders lined up for the start of the Cheltenham Gold Cup.
The most famous jump race in the world brought huge numbers of people to Coral bookmakers in Northgate Street, where a queue snaked out of the door.
Staff worked at ten to the dozen to make sure everyone could place a bet in time for the 3.20pm start.
Most were lumping on Bob's Worth but there was some support for Gloucestershire-trained The Giant Bolster.
"It's not usually like this," said one punter, who did not wish to be named. "It's a great atmosphere though - I just hope we can all get our bets in."
