THE first signs of spring are on display in Quedgeley, with youngsters from Chatterbox playgroup making paper snowdrops.

Chatterbox is run at St James’ Church in School Lane every Tuesday, and the youngsters got creative this week, making decorations for this Sunday’s family worship and praise service, celebrating Candlemas.

The service is held every first Sunday in the month. It will be the second time this type of family service, which breaks away from the traditional church service, has been held at St James’.

Worship, prayers and craft activities form the basis of the service and a free buffet lunch is available at the end of the morning.

Father John Ward, rector and parish priest, said: “It’s been amazing how creative the children have been.

“Snowdrops have long been associated with Candlemas, although on Sunday we shall be asking them to try their hand at making Christingles using oranges, red tape and sweets.”
