AS GLOUCESTER braces itself for a deluge of revellers on what is expected to be the biggest party night of the year, evening economy policing teams are expecting a busy night.

New safety schemes for Gloucester, including an Eastgate Street pedestrianisation trial, face an acid test as drinkers pile into the city as Christmas parties get into full swing.

Richard Payne, manager of Zest, said: “It is traditionally the biggest night of the year for the city and we are ready to make sure everyone has a good time tonight, but that it is also safe.

“People are finishing work for the holidays and there are lots of Christmas parties so it is usually a good atmosphere.”

As a small business owner I find Christmas the most selfish time of year. Clients could not give a toss if their invoices are paid and all the employees are bothered about from these bigger companies who shaft littler companies is going for their blasted Christmas parties. Small business in total when combined employ more people than bigger companies so in reality small companies are the bigger employers.
