Asher Thomas Maslin has appeared in Cheltenham Magistrates’ Court charged with the murder of Gloucester hairdresser, Hollie Gazzard.
The 22-year-old of Benhall Gardens in the spa town spoke only to confirm his name and address.
The case was sent to Bristol Crown Court for a bail hearing on Tuesday.
Maslin, a former student of Churchdown School, entered no plea to the charge.
It read on February 18 at Gloucester you murdered Hollie Gazzard.
The legal advisor told the court it was restricted in its powers and the case had to be sent to crown court, where he would be entitled to make a bail application.
Magistrate Hilary Davidson asked Maslin to look at her and told him: “You have heard what the legal advisor said and in the meantime you will be remanded in custody.”
Maslin is alleged to have stabbed Hollie to death while she worked at Fringe Benefits and La Bella Beauty in Southgate Street, Gloucester on Tuesday night.
A man in the public gallery told Maslin: “Stay strong.”
Maslin appeared wearing navy blue jogging bottoms and a top.
Prosecutor Sharon Jomaa and defence counsel, Clare Malvern made no representations during the three minute hearing on Friday.
