Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway is a cornerstone of many a family's evening in front of the television.

The Geordie duo's ratings are as high as ever, regularly passing 6.5 million and pushing BBC One's The Voice extremely close.

Saturday night TV has been a hard one for executives in crack in more recent years, with talent shows proving the likeliest formula for success.

But does Saturday Night Takeaway mark a return to form for light entertainment?

How does it compare to the Generation Game, Blind Date and other classics of years gone by.
