MORE than 60 paedophiles have been unmasked in Gloucestershire using powers under Sarah’s Law since it was rolled out nationwide.
Figures show a total of 67 child sex offenders have been identified to worried parents and guardians since April 2011 when the scheme was launched across the country.
The Child Sex Offender Disclosure Scheme was brought in following a campaign by Sara Payne, whose daughter Sarah was murdered by paedophile Roy Whiting in 2000.
The figures released under the Freedom of Information Act show 20 sex offenders were revealed in Gloucestershire, as the result of applications in 2011/12; whereas 35 were revealed during 2012/13. And in 2013/14, so far, 12 paedophiles have been unmasked.
National figures reveal more than 700 people were confirmed by police forces as convicted paedophiles, from 4,754 applications.
